Fraction Operations Step-by-Step
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions. Learn how to find common denominators (LCM), convert mixed numbers, and use Keep-Change-Flip.
To add or subtract fractions, they must share a Lowest Common Denominator (LCD). Scale both fractions, then add or subtract only the top numerators!
Multiply straight across! Multiply top × top and bottom × bottom. Look out for cross-simplification before multiplying to keep numbers small.
Keep the first fraction unchanged, Change ÷ to ×, and Flip the second fraction upside-down into its reciprocal.
Always convert mixed numbers into improper fractions first (W × D + N) before adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing.
